Eating sa Philippines

My aunt's pomelo, freshly picked
Pomelo close up
Road stop snack en route to Manila: coffee, fried wild boar jerky, and garlic rice
A glass of rose--feels good in that Manila heat and humidity
My nephew made me this for breakfast: hard boiled eggs with tomato, rice, corned beef sauteed with onions and potato, bolognese ala Pinoy (sweeter, not much herbs)
Roasted eggplant and fresh water buffalo cheese, wrapped in bacon w/ salad

Lunch stop en route to So. Luzon: beautiful nilagang baboy (that's the soup)--with an amazing clarity, rice, and bitter melon with scrambled egg and minced pork
My cousins kitchen utensils
Rice cake with salted egg and freshly grated coconut--one of the snacks I ate while riding the bust to my hometown
And finally, the super yummy JAL foods: unlimited green tea and free red wine

Tricycles!

I love these for going around town. They are open to the elements . When the road is bumpy, you'll feel it on your rump. When it drives by a barbecue stand, you mouth will water. I like riding them in the morning when it is cool and the breeze plays with my face.

Sa Pinas

Photos from November, 2005 trip to the Philippines

My favorite portrait and I feel at home. It's how I remember our house, the colors, the light...

Waiting for the bus to take me home from Manila to Bayombong: this was 3:00 AM and I was sweating buckets

Looking up at the sky through an old blue roof, Malate, Manila

digi enhanced photo of Manila de Bay--these are kids enjoying the slight breeze

Funny thing about memory...I don't remember if this is how intense the sunset really was..but here it is

How I felt throughout the whole trip...just kidding. This is an example of translation problems: the sign is actually an advertisement for a male helper
Painted sign on a wall; Malate, Manila

One of the most baffling sights in Manila. I'd hate to be the electrician

This was taken in early November when Christmas is already in the air.

Barcelona

Dusk view from Montjuic
These are some of the photos I took in Barcelona. I did not take as many photos as I usually do; I think after the winter grey of Paris, I was content just enjoying the sun of Barcelona.

MACBA (contemporary art museum)

Outside MACBA

This was taken around MACBA ..it was so warm in Barcelona, people can hang their wash to dry
